Faculty and Staff Biographies

Introducing . . .

Mary Ann Green: The Director and the Head Teacher of the Lower Elementary class at CCE, Ms. MaryAnn has a BS in Education from the University of Cincinnati and an MA with a concentration in Montessori Education from Xavier University. Ms MaryAnn also holds an American Montessori Certification for Primary and Lower Elementary and a Consultant Certification, also from AMS. She has served as a teacher, facilitator and curriculum coordinator of Developing Capable People Parenting groups. She has also presented workshops at the Princeton Center for Teacher Education, at the Center for Montessori Teacher Education and at regional and national Montessori conferences. Ms MaryAnn has lived in Arizona for more than ten years.

Julie Dederer: With a Masters degree in Education with an emphasis in reading, a BS in music education from the State University of New York at Fredonia, a Primary (ages 3-6) credential from the American Montessori Society and experience as a Montessori teacher and teacher trainer, Ms Julie joins us as Assistant Director and Music Teacher. Her broad experience with all aspects of education make her an excellent CCE representative and administrator. We expect to profit widely from her teaching expertise and her other varied talents.

Amy Rux: Having moved to Cottonwood from western Colorado, Amy brings years of experience working with children in school systems. She has been a Speech and Language assistant and a teaching assistant. Her organizational abilities will be valued in the office at CCE.

Karen Cross: Returning to CCE for the fifth year and as lead teacher in the 3-6 classroom, Ms Karen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in art from Drew University in New Jersey and a Montessori Primary (3-6) credential from the American Montessori Society. Ms Karen worked as a teaching assistant at the Montessori Children’s Academy in Madison, NJ. She comes from a large family and enjoys watching the development and learning processes of young children.

Linda Maxwell: A transplant from northern New York, Ms Linda earned a BA from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and taught school in New York for many years with concentration in reading skills. Her teaching experience includes ages 3 through 18 and she loves working with young students. She joined CCE three years ago and will continue as teacher at the Upper Elementary level with students ages 9 through 12.

Chris Vercillo: Mr. Chris holds a teaching certificate for children ages 6 through 12 from the American Montessori Society. He has been teaching in Montessori schools for many years. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Fine Arts from the University of AZ. His focus here at the Center for Creative Education is teaching science and math, as well as physical education and cultural subjects for both the lower and upper elementary classes. He primarily is the co-teacher with Ms. Linda in the upper elementary.

Diane Dennig: Ms Diane moved to Cottonwood from California. She has brought years of experience in working with children, both as a teacher and as a daycare administrator to her position at CCE. She holds a certificate in Child Development and brings her expertise to work as Teaching Assistant with Ms MaryAnn in the Lower Elementary Classroom.

Kyetra McMenamin: Kyetra works with Ms Karen in the 3-6 classroom as the Teaching Assistant. She brings her love for Montessori teaching and her love for children to the classroom. Her family has been involved with CCE for five years. She has a son Tanner in the Upper Elementary class.
