Elementary

Montessori Elementary Program

The Montessori curriculum is complete and stimulating. Within the classroom environment, each child progresses at his/her own pace, choosing materials that coincide with his/her interests and develop appropriate skills. The goal is to provide an integrated curriculum that allows the directress the flexibility to introduce new subject matter whenever student interest indicates.

AREAS OF STUDY


Language Activities

Basic reading skills are developed through the use of Montessori materials, the SRA series of independent booklets, and Primary Phonics storybooks.

First Level
Spelling beginning level of creative writing, library skills, dictionary skills, begin the study of basic parts of speech, reading short stories introduction to punctuation, capitalization, word study and book reports.

Second Level
Cursive, spelling, reading, continuation of punctuation, word study, grammar boxes, research skills and book reports. Sentence analysis begins.

Third Level
Cursive, spelling, grammar boxes, sentence analysis, current events, summaries, and detailed book and research reports.

Mathematics

First Level
Geometry cabinet to abstraction. Constructive triangles. Begin study of lines and geometry nomenclature.

Second Level
Geometry nomenclature continues, concept of angles, begin concept of congruency, similarity and equivalence.

Third Level
Continues concept of congruency, similarity and equivalence, geometry nomenclature. Introduction to area and perimeter.

Geometry

First Level
Geometry cabinet to abstraction. Constructive triangles. Begin study of lines and geometry nomenclature.

Second Level
Geometry nomenclature continues, concept of angles, begin concept of congruency, similarity and equivalence.

Third Level
Continues concept of congruency, similarity and equivalence, geometry nomenclature. Introduction to area and perimeter.

Cultural Studies

Biology
Lower Elementary: First knowledge of the animal kingdom, external parts of the vertebrates, begin zoological classification chart, animal stories, internal parts of vertebrates. Begin physics, chemistry and geology. Begin botany classification chart and botany nomenclature. Begin research.

History and Geography
Lower Elementary: Personal timelines, preparation for time
lines, clock of eras, evolution time lines of life and men; use of globes and maps; fundamental needs of man; mans' interdependence. States and capitals, landforms of the world; study of other countries and cultures. Geography charts and experiments. Begin research.
