In conjunction with the Montessori philosophy of service to others, we will again participate in the “Pennies for Patients” program to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society which supports children in treatment and research. Our participation is in memory of Melyssa Griffin and Ross Bluestone, former CCE staff members.

News from PreK/K

All children are working hard on their work plans and exploring the classroom. We will begin exploring the continent of Australia. We will also continue to explore our bodies and their systems.

News from Lower Elementary

The 6-9 class is exploring earthquakes along with the devastation in Haiti. The children asked to collect money to assist those in need. We will be sending our money (counted this week) to La Casa Dei Bambini Montessori School in Port-au-prince. Part of their school collapsed, and only three of the nine teachers have been accounted for. No children were in the school at the time of the collapse.

First-years are working on the history of the calendar which will take us into timelines. Most seconds and thirds are reading numerous chapter books which culminate with book reports. They are also working on animal research using two references for information.

News from Upper Elementary

The Upper Elementary is going to the library on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010. We are learning how to write friendly letters. An author is coming to our school. School has been going great for us.

News for the PTO

The Silent Auction at the Winter Program yielded $400.00.
At a recent meeting, parents suggested the following fund-raising ideas:
  • Making copies of the recorded Winter program to sell to all interested parties 1
  • Selling baked goods and refreshments for the March 5-8 theatrical performances at the Clarkdale Clubhouse 2
  • A clothing exchange…every parent brings clothes and pays $5.00. This is scheduled tentatively for March 5. 3

Mathew Henry Hall

Matthew Henry Hall, Children’s Author, Visits CCE

Matthew Henry Hall, an accomplished musician, a published cartoonist, and the author of the children’s book, Phoebe and Chub, presented workshops on story writing to the children on Thursday, January 28. He sang and performed with puppets with the 3-6 and Lower Elementary classes and facilitated an interactive workshop in story writing with the Upper Elementary. It was a wonderful experience for all.
Memories of the Winter Program

Winter Program A Success

The Winter Program was a great success! The children worked hard prior to the event and the results of their practice were evident. The turnout was wonderful. Thanks to all who attended and helped. Thanks to parents who donated efforts, goods and time to this event.

Chris Luna shares his personal Timeline of Life.
Grandparents’ Day

It was wonderful to see so many visitors on Grandparents’ Day. We hope that all enjoyed themselves. The children were so excited that you
came!

KUDOS to CCE

Kathy Swope, the nurse from Yavapai County Educational services who did the vision and hearing screenings for us, was very impressed with our community here at CCE. She said that she has visited many other Montessori schools in the area and found ours to be the most welcoming, cooperative, organized and peaceful. It is good to know that the values we share are appreciated by others when they visit our environment.
